Spotlight: Helen DiPietro
“I enjoy learning about the how and why of organizations. My friend, Angkana Bode, was chair at that time, and she encouraged me to attend meetings. I started attending Staff Senate meetings in the fall of 2015. I was nominated by a friend for the Senate in the spring of 2016 and won the election.
I enjoyed learning why certain policies, rules were adopted and about issues of concern for staff.
The benefit of serving as a senator has been to know staff and disseminate information to the staff of COE. My constituents tell me the issues that concern them, which I then bring to the attention of Staff Senate.
I believe in the saying that if you see something, say something, otherwise change cannot happen. The one word which comes to mind about my service in Staff Senate is :
Empowerment.“
