Providing Support to our Communities in WNC
Thank you in advance to everyone who has reached out inquiring about ways to provide help and support following the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Helene.
In collaboration with our representative colleagues in the Faculty Senate and Student Government, we want to share the following opportunities for those who would like to make a donation in support of our community in Western North Carolina:
Donations in support of Campus-Specific Funds
- Appalachian State University – when donating select “Mountaineer Emergency Fund”.
- UNC Asheville Disaster Relief – when donating comment “student emergency fund” or “Helene disaster relief”.
- Western Carolina University – when donating select a designation of “Emergency and Disaster Management Program” or “Student Affairs Emergency Fund”.
Physical donations in Raleigh
- Triangle Mutual Aid Hurricane Helen Response
- Locations:
- Student Government office – 4251 Talley Student Union.
- Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering – 3002 Engineering Building III.
- Collection Dates: Ongoing as supplies are needed. Donated items will be transported to Triangle Mutual Aid on a regular basis.
- What is needed: Water, Life Straws, Chainsaws, Heavy-duty storage totes, Heavy-duty tarps (the blue ones are less good), Generators, Roofing nails, Baby formula, Non-perishable food, Coolers, Gatorade,Wire brushes, Trash bags (the heavy ones are sometimes called “contractor bags”), Brooms, Mops, Laundry detergent, Washboards, Batteries, power banks, Mosquito spray, Toilet paper, Dehumidifiers, Box fans, Solar charging items, Diapers, baby wipes, 5 gal buckets, Respirators and N-95 cartridges, 2x4s, Bleach.
