The purpose of the Sheila W. Young Memorial Staff Senate Scholarship and Enrichment Fund is to provide scholarship(s) to NC State full-time, permanent non-faculty employees who are taking professional development courses, undergraduate level courses at an accredited institution of higher education, or enrolled in approved – short courses, licensure, certificate or continuing education programs that supports staff development. In addition, the fund will be used to promote and award staff by hosting various recognition awards such as “Outstanding Employee of the Month”, recognize outstanding staff leadership and volunteerism.
The Fund has been established in memory of Sheila W. Young (1944-2013) a philanthropist, and the parent of Staff Senate Chair Wyona R. Goodwin. Ms. Young did not have an opportunity to go to college or work in the corporate world. However, she showed great support to her daughter while attending college, working a full time job, raising her family and encouraged her to live her dreams and to help those in need, large or small.
The Senate accepts applications the first business day of every quarter, January, April, July, October, as long as funding is available.
