Parking TIPS & TRICKS for Staff
Rideshare/Carpool Program
Below is an overview of the carpool program, which I shared with the Staff Senate on February 4th. As I explained at that meeting, adding the 2-person rideshare option better aligns the employee carpool program with the student program.
B-Rideshare Permit (2 Person Rideshare with B Lot Parking Access)
- Two permanent NC State Employees are needed to form a B-Rideshare. At least one member must have an office on North Campus.
- B-Rideshare members split the cost of a B Permit ($447). Each person pays $18.63 per month (payroll deducted).
- B-Rideshare members may park in B areas as well as C, CC, CD, P, DD, V or W areas.
- Only one B-Rideshare hangtag issued per carpool.
- Each B-Rideshare member receives 24 free daily permits. Daily parking permits are valid in C or CD areas only.
- Registered B-Rideshare participants are eligible for the Emergency Ride Home program.
C-Rideshare Permit (2 Person Rideshare with C Lot Parking Access)
- Two permanent NC State Employees are needed to form a C-Rideshare.
- C-Rideshare members split the cost of a C Permit ($342). Each carpooler pays $14.25 per month (payroll deducted).
- C-Rideshare members may park in C, CC, CD, P, DD, V or W areas.
- Only one C-Rideshare hangtag issued per carpool.
- Each C-Rideshare member receives 24 free daily permits. Daily parking permits are valid in C or CD areas only.
- Registered C-Rideshare participants are eligible for the Emergency Ride Home program.
Carpool Permit (3+ Person Carpool)
- At least three permanent NC State Employees are needed to form a carpool.
- Each carpooler pays $9.25 per month (payroll deducted).
- Carpool permit (CP) may park in B, C, CC, CD, P, DD, V or W areas.
- Each carpooler receives 24 free daily permits. Daily parking permits are valid in C or CD areas only.
- Only one CP hangtag issued per carpool.
- Registered carpool participants are eligible for the Emergency Ride Home program
Relaxed (Modified) Enforcment
Modified enforcement is that it me period when everyone has to have a parking permits, but any employee parking permit may park in any student commuter or resident parking area: CC, CD, DD, RE, RW, RC, RP, RS, P, V, W. Modified enforcement is in play during official student holidays, breaks and during the summer.
Summer “B” Permits
Employees who have a work location on North Campus, but do not have a “B” permit, may purchase a “B” during summer breaks, based on availability. Permits are available beginning the day after graduation through August 15th, when the permits expire.
North Lot
The university entered into an agreement with the Aloft hotel to allow the hotel to use 34 spaces along the north and west perimeter (B area) for after-hours valet parking (5pm-7am M-Th and 5pm Friday until 7am Monday). The agreement includes the understanding that vehicles with NC State “B” parking permits will not be towed, as it is reasonable to expect employees will not all leave by 5 pm during weekdays. Transportation has been monitoring evening space availability and consistently finds 50-130 available spaces in the lot after 5 pm.
