Wolfpack Gives 2024 Winter Coat & Clothing Drive Thank You

On Monday, January 27, 2025, the NC State Staff Senate hosted their annual Winter Coat and Clothing Drive distribution day, in partnership with Pack Essentials. The giveaway was held in North Hall, also home to the Feed the Pack Food Pantry. Staff Senators dropped off collection boxes from across campus, volunteers sorted and displayed donated items, and NC State students, staff and faculty “shopped” during giveaway hours all in the same day! Volunteers observed shoppers expressing joy while holding items up to the mirror and gratitude in their eyes as they walked away with their newly found treasures. One participant said that because their salary isn’t keeping up with inflation, this giveaway event really helped them.

Staff Senators collected over 700 items, ranging from winter outerwear, to sweaters and slacks, to warm footwear. About half of all items donated were selected by the NC State campus community during the giveaway event. Afterwards, NC State swag was donated to the Shelton Scholar’s project NCSUsed, and the remaining leftovers were donated to local charities such as Wolfpack Styled Professional Clothing Closet on campus (professional clothes), Raleigh Rescue Mission (XXL+ men’s coats), Note in the Pocket (children’s items), Cause for Paws and Goodwill.

A heartfelt “thank you” goes out to the entire campus community for donating high-quality items, to Staff Senators for collecting and dropping off donations, and to the Pack Essentials Team for helping us plan, spread the word and execute this event. In addition, a special thank you goes to the enthusiastic 24 volunteers made up of Shelton Scholars, Staff Senators and other NC State staff who worked very hard to make this giveaway a success! The Staff Senate’s Community Service and Engagement Committee could not have done it without each and everyone one of you!
