Nominations for the 2025-2027 Staff Senate Term are Open.

The NC State Staff Senate represents over 7,000 university staff on campuses and extension sites across the state. It serves as the representative advisory body to the Chancellor and is a key part of the shared governance structure leading the university. The activities of the Senate take three main approaches—enriching the lives and community of our staff across the university through professional development and a culture of service; advocating for positive change that affects staff members from all walks of life; and helping to be a voice communicating policy, opportunity and collaboration across our campuses and counties.

Duties of senators include attending a one-day retreat in July, participating in all scheduled general meetings (first Wednesday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to noon), serving on a committee and attending committee meetings (one per month), communicating and disseminating information to constituents, and working to build a sense of community on campus. A time commitment of a minimum of four hours per month is expected.

Staff are welcome and encouraged to nominate individuals (including themselves) for any district, not just for their own. Please note that the district 16- College of Humanities and Social Sciences is not accepting nominations because there are no open seats for Senators or Alternate Senators for this district this coming term.

While there are no open seats for Senators in the districts listed below, staff can nominate individuals (including themselves) to serve as an Alternate Senator. Alternates fill in for Senators in case of an absence.

  • 11 – CALS South Central (SC)
  • 12 – College of Design
  • 18 – Wilson College of Textiles
  • 20 – Poole College of Management

The online nomination process for Staff Senate is available through midnight on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

Please note: Nominees must be full-time (FTE of .75 or more), permanent employees with at least 12 months of continuous service in a permanent position with the university prior to being nominated.

In addition, the following individuals are not eligible to be nominated:

  • Designated SAAO (i.e., Chancellor, Provost, Vice Chancellors, Deans)
  • Tenured, tenure track and professional track faculty as defined under NC State REG 05.20.34
  • Designated faculty with a vote assignment
